Tour Végétale de Nantes eco friendly skyscraper to be adorned with plants

Tour Végétale de NantesSo far the French city of Nantes has remained a favorite with the tourists for its strong cultural history and has even been described as the “most livable city of Europe”. The beautiful city is part of western France and is located on Loire river around beautiful landscapes. Soon one more feather will be added to the city’s cap as a huge tower in the city will be displaying all kinds of live plants, growing from within the building’s crevices, brought from all over the world.

The idea is to make skyscrapers green places to live and also make them more charming for people to live in. The project is being undertaken by architect Edouard François, for the eco neighborhoods of city of Nantes. There are two remarkable features of this building, its height and its built-in mechanism for growing plants. The building has a total of 17 stories which translates into nothing less than 60 meters, with shops and parking spaces at its bottom.

The main attraction is the growth of plants brought from all around the world and frozen in the botanical garden of Nantes, before being used for the creating ‘hanging garden’ around the building. People interested in knowing about flora of the city will get to know about its plants by simply looking at the building. It will showcase almost all the varieties of plants.

Famous botanist, Claude Figureau is working on this project with the architecture firm. The plants basically will be grown in elliptical balconies which will ring around the main skyscraper. The size of the balconies vary to accommodate all kind of plants and form a green silhouette around the building. The plants will grow in long stainless steel tubes which will recreate nature like conditions for these plants.
