2012 Olympics may be far off but London is getting set to usher the Olympics in green grandeur. The focal point of this Olympics would be the world’s first tidal-powered lunar clock, a stunning piece of art, that will power homes in addition to showing time to the mesmerized world.
The aesthetically designed tidal powered lunar clock designed by Aluna Limited, is a 40 meter-wide structure that will rest atop the turbines and will power the entire mechanism through the natural tides of the River Thames. The clock consists of three huge concentric rings made of glass and steel represent the waxing and waning of the moon.
So far, I knew that sun and wind were the only two sources of renewable energy, good to see ‘lunar power’ in that category too. It is a known fact that the tides of a river changes according to the waxing and waning of the moon. So, the clock will look brighter when the tides are high on a full moon day. While the moon and tidal power would be make the clock a self-sufficient one in terms of power, the viewers would be captivated by the new look it oozes out everyday, thanks to the unpredictable behavior of nature!
With the tidal-powered lunar clock, no two nights are the same again!!
