Designed by SBA-Design, the Tianjin Airport International Hospital will seek to lend huge open space with lush greenery. The green elements have been meticulously incorporated in the design in keeping with the concept of a Medical Park. The hospital, proposed for the Tianjin area of north China and designed in close co-operation with M+P, has won the top honors at the international competition for the project International Hospital of Tianjin Medical University.

Being situated in the airport complex, one of its advantages would be to make medical assistance accessible to passengers in case of an emergency. With its low carbon emission, solar panels and other sustainable and energy-efficient concepts, the innovative design of the building will totally change the face of future hospitals. Another important design aspect is the stress on vertical and horizontal flow which will minimize time for moving medical and material logistics as well as during rescue operations.

The three-storied Hospital is expected to cater to a large number of patients with its planned 1500 beds. It also aims at providing a first-class service by combining medical treatment with education and scientific research. Its strategic location will enable people, residing in the locality, to seek urgent medical care.

Spread over a gross floor area of 152,860 sq m and with 13.4 ha of land around it, the Hospital has integrated the green aspect in a great way by creating a huge park and several roof gardens. Rows of trees and well manicured lawns will be visible from the patients’ rooms, thereby providing a conducive atmosphere to them to recover early.

The landscape of the lawn has also incorporated a fountain and some water bodies. To break the monotony of the green space, a structure has been designed in the midst with stairs on four sides. The green roofs are aimed at controlling the carbon emission as well as control the temperature besides providing an aesthetic environment, while the solar panels will offer sustainable energy, saving both cost and electricity.
