The $610 million Iway proposal has now seriously taken the sustainable step forward, as the winning design for Providence Pedestrian Bridge Design Competition was announced by Providence Mayor David N. Cicilline. This winning design was conceptualized by the eminent architectural firm inFORM Studio, in conjunction with engineering firm Buro Happold.

The Providence Pedestrian Bridge will replace the old I-195 Bridge. And according to the architects, this new structure would not only be ‘just’ a bridge, it would rather incorporate a more elaborate and ‘greener’ scale. This astute landmark would assimilate a grand boardwalk featuring a plethora of defining spaces. That includes a cafe, an outdoor seating area with a brilliant view of Providence’s waterfront, a descending terrace with an integrated sun-deck, along with confined green gardens and sculptures.

The remarkable concept was selected among 47 entries. Mayor David N. Cicilline added:

We received incredible designs from all over the world and I want to commend the Selection Committee for creating a fair, transparent and inclusive selection process that encouraged input from the entire community.
