Back in April Michael Dell unveiled the eco-inspired system with a bamboo casing and claimed it to be Dell’s smallest computer. The machine is approximately 81 per cent smaller than a standard desktop and uses seventy per cent less power. Now, storage company Fabrik announced the release of its new eco-friendly external drive dubbed the [re]drive, made from bamboo and aluminum.

The case which is a combination of bamboo and aluminum is hundred percent recyclable, the specially designed ridges on the casing act as heat sinks, cooling the drive without the use of a fan. It also has a 500 GB [re]drive which uses a combination of materials, power management and design to minimize its environmental footprint. The company claims to 40 percent less power consumption, as the Energy Star level 4-qualified power adapters automatically shuts on or off with the computer which also features a low-power hard drive.

Waste aluminum from the manufacturing process is mixed in with the raw aluminum to make parts and the box is 100 percent recyclable. It’s interesting how bamboo was chosen as a material for the [re]drive but nevertheless a brilliant idea as its one plant that can be easily grown. This product is a good campaign to promote the use of bamboo material and one of the few devices with an environmentally assiduous blueprint.
