Team Crane goes green using soybean bio-diesel fuel

soybeanTeam Crane is going green amidst the crying need of alternative energy to help prevent global warming. The Naval Facilities Engineering Command Midwest and the Public Works Department at the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Crane Division are now using soybean bio-diesel fuel from the Indiana Soybean Board (ISB).

To support ordnance operations for Crane’s Army Ammunition Activity, the first load of fuel mixture was initially used to power the Navy’s fleet of locomotives. It was in January, the first load of fuel mixture that consists of 80 percent diesel fuel and 20 percent soybean oil was received.

Crane’s public works officer, Cmdr. John A. Kliem said,

The Navy is thrilled to be working with the ISB to burn a cleaner, environmentally-friendly, American-made fuel.
