Eco Factor: Energy-efficient floating home concept.
The Tafoni Floating Home by American designer Joanna Borek Clement has been designed to change people’s attitude about living on a houseboat. The minimal concept features several sustainable additions that reduce the amount of energy required.
The plan features a sculptural Tafoni-inspired exterior, and the interior walls divide the space into three major areas dedicated for a kitchen, living room and a bedroom. The center of the house consists of a fully glazed sunroom that contains the kitchen, dining area and the main entrance, which are all illuminated by daylight.
The frame of the houseboat consists of modular repetitive ellipsoidal wooden trusses, which can be mass produced to save resources and energy. They also eliminate the need for additional walls and columns that would otherwise cram the space inside.
