A ride to over the Atlantic goes solar and hence ‘green’! It is for the first time, a group of Swiss people will cross the ocean in a solar-powered boat. The solar-ship is hence named ‘sun21’. The 14-meter-long catamaran is able to sleep 5 or 6 persons.

Traveling a 7,000-mile distance, the team will be leaving Seville, Spain, in December 2006 and reach ports in Florida and New York in the spring of 2007 in this boat. Keeping the entire trip environment-friendly, the boat will not spend a single gallon of fuel, and will be totally powered by photovoltaic cells. It will travel at a speed of 5-6 knots (10-12 km/h).

Transatlantic21 is the consortium behind this project, converting photovoltaic energy into mobility.
