Eco Factor: UK’s largest bench made from reclaimed materials.
Designers at Studio Weave have created and installed a 324m long bench on the seafront at Littlehampton in the UK. Christened “The Longest Bench”, the environmentally-friendly installation, provides seating for about 300 people. The bench has been created from reclaimed tropical hardwood, which has been salvaged from landfills.
Accompanying the long bench are two bronze-finished steel monocoque loops that connect the promenade with the green behind it. The Longest Bench also features colorful stainless steel bars that are inserted wherever the form changes shape. The designers are planning to increase the length of the bench to about 621m, which will then be able to provide seating to over 800 people.
