In a recent report from Hitachi Japan, slim plasma televisions are apparently better for the environment owing to their reduced power consumption. Also, the fact that plasma televisions need to run cooler than their chubbier counterparts, so they don’t overheat and that plasma panels don’t need a backlight will combine to cut the power demands of future models.
Hitachi also disclosed that it will unveil slim plasma TVs down to 10 mm by 2012. It will also, during the same time, introduce 15mm-thick LCD sets, with the plan that 15mm is as thin as LCD can get because of the need of backlight.
