Global warming is a matter of concern. Just to accommodate the ever-increasing population, forests are being destroyed at a faster rate. Restoring our natural flora seems to be the only way to save our planet. The revival of the Station 5 Water Tower is an example of an architectural design that is beneficial for both environment and people as well.
This tower was an old and destroyed building, but it has been renovated during ‘Water Tower-new perspectives’ Competition in 2010. The credit for this environment-friendly makeover goes to Ariel Noyman. After restoring this building, it has emerged as an important landmark and a place where people can visit for entertainment. It is not only the Water Tower, but also the surroundings that have become beautiful and attractive.
The newly restored building will now host cultural and educational activities. The interiors of the building will also be renovated. The lower water pool will be transformed into a place where history of the city can be showcased in the form of exhibitions. The gap between lower and upper pool will be modified into a vertical garden. Movies and lectures are to be held in the upper pool cylinder. The building will also house a cafeteria.
The best thing about the design is that the whole building will be covered with climbers supported on metal nets. This will make the building look like a huge tree. This unique concept of covering the building with plants will provide a fresh and natural look.
I must say this is an intelligent way of revitalizing the whole surrounding. Such architectural designs are sure to solve our environmental problems.
