Architects are now venturing into unusual yet appealing geometric designs rather than the commonly seen circular or square shaped patterns. This became attainable with the discovery of digital fabrication which facilitates in transforming intricate digital designs into a real object. Stack pavilion or FreelandBuck Stack is one of the projects constructed by the company FreelandBuck in London. The stack pavilion contains many triangular units which assist in harmonizing every specific part of a wall like the corners, doors or stairs of a structure.
Stack pavilion uses strong flat plywood sheets for the construction and this design has been used for all the walls and the stairs alike. Some of the triangular frames of the room walls are hollow consequently resulting in better penetration of light and air circulation, unlike normal rooms which can be stuffy.
The pavilion is made out of prefabricated plywood pieces that could be disassembled and relocated at will. These slim plywood pieces are fixed together with butterfly connectors, which produces a tessellation pattern. This exquisite and extremely appealing structure had been built for the LightBox Gallery in UK for the purpose of exhibitions and such.
FreelandBuck is an institution established by David Freeland from Los Angeles and Brennann Buck from New York. Their architectural designs are a beautiful combination of digital fabrication and architecture. CNC (Computer Numerical Control) wood router with CAD program is the best tool used to construct 3 dimensional architectural structures.
FreelandBuck is a successful venture that strives to contribute fabulous innovative designs to the architectural world. David Freeland and Brennann Buck from FreelandBuck firmly believe in creating beautiful breathtaking structures through extraordinary geometric architecture. These two architects are the winners of the recent Arch IS competition 2011. This competition was initiated to congratulate and promote young talented architects and designers in the country.
