Volkswagen Up! in Germany and Space Up! in Tokyo have been the two eco-friendly car of the same species. Whats next in the series? Well, it’s the Space Up! blue. I was clearly impressed with the first look at just the picture of this prototype and when I read about it, I thought its perfect and I would have liked to call it Space Up! green. Lets see why. This is a zero emission vehicle because it is powered by high temperature fuel cells and lithium ion batteries.
Solar energy is trapped by the solar panels on the roof. The car’s 45kw electric motor can actually enable it to run 65 miles – that should be good news if you live in a country predominated by cloudy, rainy conditions. The roof mounted solar panels can supply 150 Watts of power, which can alternate with the electric motor enabling a 155 miles drive. The batteries once run out of charge can be recharged on any standard electric outlet. As you can see in the picture above, the interior of the car is spacious though it looks compact on the whole. With every aspect of this car being eco-friendly, Space Up! green might suit it better. Nevertheless, the car has roof windows. When you look up, what you see is the blue sky and that is perhaps why it is called Space Up! blue. That’s pretty apt too.
