Soya beans to soon sustain energy production

soya bean powered fuel cell
Now man has the strange nature of going over board with things. Once he finds that something works, he squeezes the life out of it. The world has a growing fuel need, which is something that we all acknowledge. But now man is turning his attention towards Soya Beans to fulfill this need. Now a simpleton like me can understand if he uses Soya Bean to sustain his own energy, but Soya Beans for engine energy!

Cleveland, Ohio-based Technology Management, Inc. (TMI) and the Ohio Soybean Council have come up with this new technology of extracting power from Soya Bean oil. Now I have heard of reports like this before, but what makes this piece of news unique is that it claims that they are running an oxide fuel cell completely based on this oil. The oil is said to be 100% from Soya Beans & it acts as the fuel for the oxide cell that produces several Kilowatts of energy. Now this indeed is serious news, as it is technology that would sustain both the small scale & large scale industries of the economy.

Make no mistake about it, the project till date has not been cheap. It has received funds as large as 1.6 billion dollars. That is huge money for the project. How far will this help future of alternate fuel? Frankly, I’m skeptical. Don’t we already have a crisis for food in third world countries & is there not enough pressure on agricultural land already? Stick to the Sun, Wind & the Water, boys. Leave the crops alone & let them just be used to feed hungry mouths, not hungry engines. That is just my take on it, I could be wrong.
