‘Sound waves’ and biomass-powered cooker-fridge-electricity generator

the cooker fridge electricity generator 9

A blessed technology is on its way for the developing countries. Thanks to the several UK universities that are teaming up for developing an ‘inexpensive’ all-in-one appliance.

The technology – named SCORE device — is compiling cooker, fridge and electricity generator in a single system. More amazing then this is the source of the energy with which the appliances are powered – its sound waves!

The technology is doubly environment-friendly. The multipurpose device does not just use biomass fuels to power the appliances fitted into it, but also uses ‘thermoacoustic technology’ to convert the bio-fuels — like wood — into energy.

The project director Paul Riley at the University of Nottingham, UK said,

(In the SCORE device) burning wood heats a gas-filled pipe at one end. The gas moves from the hot part, where it expands, to the cold part, where it contracts. The pipe then resonates rather like an organ pipe.

Thus, it is powered by biomass fuels and sound waves. Pushing the horizons of thermoacoustic technology-use only for expensive applications like cooling units on spacecrafts, this innovative stove could be great help for the two billion people living in the developing countries across the world, who use open fires as their primary cooking method.
