Eco Factor: Sustainable greenhouse produces food and renewable electricity.
In an interesting twist in the ever-increasing field of BIPV, which is rapidly turning humble buildings into mini power stations, Solar ReFeel has partnered with Solyndra to test a greenhouse that produces both food and electricity with an onboard photovoltaic array.
The project will test how well crops can grow in a greenhouse that is outfitted with photovoltaic systems, which are cylindrical in contrast to flat panels that are more popular. The cylindrical design enables more light to pass through into the greenhouse, which enhances crop growth.
