As it has been playing for eons, Solar energy will keep playing a big role in our lives. Especially in underdeveloped countries which are not primarily depended on the western-style centralized power grids. And meant for such nations is the much sought after and talked about One Laptop per child (OLPC) project. Aimed to provide computing power to children in poor nations, it intends to consume very low power as it will be used in areas with poor or non-existent power infrastructure, with electricity often very expensive for the user. Designed to get its power from yo-yos, hand cranks, solar panels, or gang charger, as of yet nothing as been concretely structured to make it solar powered. Grabbing the opportunity, Yama Ploskonka, who wants to be dubbed as Sun God (of OLPC project of course) has penned down a brilliant method to run the XO on laptop.
So laying his hands on the required laptop, a plug and solar panels, Yama got to some real hard work. And he managed to run this solar powered XO during noon time in the parking lot of his Austin office. Though it’s purely a DIY kinda project till date, Yama intends to offer this partial solar solution for about $30. only till he gets supporters and sponsors to take on a bigger level.
