Recently, Safeway has started a solar powered grocery shop in Dublin. It is really a big step towards the green revolution. To know more about it, Jerry McNerney, Congressman joined one of the Safeway officials and took a trip of solar array roof top. The 55,000 square foot store is being energized by solar panels.

Interestingly, wind energy is being used for powering up the gas station. Along with solar and wind energy, Safeway has made significant investments in other energy saving projects. For instance, it is also taking appropriate measures to minimize the demand of carbon power.

Safeway is also one of the leading retail recyclers in plastic, paper and cardboard. To put its best step as an environmentalist, Safeway has also join hands with Chicago Climate Exchange. It is one of the leading programs for reducing emission of green house gases. Since year 2000, Safeway has also minimized the emission of harmful gases considerably.
