Another out of the ordinary application of Sun’s energy is to power kilns. Piñon Jorge Pineda, a researcher at the National Polytechnic Institute, has come up with a solar powered kiln for firing clay that generated no damaging emissions. This high temperature oven (as it called) consists of a set of mirrors, layers of aluminum and a something that redirected the sun’s rays to a parabolic concentrator. From there parabolic concentrator directs the heat energy in a container whose interior walls are placed for cooking. This self-sufficient as well eco-friendly system conserves resources and energy, offering relief to the environment, while being used for churning out stuff at construction sites.

In Almeria, the solar ovens are a part of the investigations being carried out around renewable energies in the Plataforma Solar de Almeria (PSA), which is regarded as the largest research and development of solar technologies in Europe dedicated concentration. While in France the Solar Oven Odeillo is considered one of the two largest in the world, along with that exists in Tashkent (Uzbekistan), and able to generate a thermal power of 1000 kW.
