Solar Glass Cells: Green future visible through the reddish hue of solar glass!

This is not like one of those many projects in which they put solar panels on the window panes to charge up during day and use it to light up stuff at night. This is a lot more serious than that. In fact, this is the cutting edge of Solar Technology and it is achieved by using a brand new type of cells called the ‘Solar Glass Cells’. Professor John Bell said Queensland University of Technology had worked with a Canberra-based company Dyesol, which is developing transparent solar cells that act as both windows and energy generators in houses or commercial buildings; a technology that could change the way we power our homes forever.

The solar cell glass would make a significant difference to home and building owners’ energy costs and could in fact generate excess energy that could be stored for later use. It can even be sold in the commercial market. This cool new glass was one of a number of practical technologies that would help combat global warming which was a focus of research at the ISR. The transparent solar cells have a faint reddish hue but are completely see-through. They soon might help every home and firm generate their own energy without having to rely on any external source.

As long as a house is designed throughout for energy efficiency, with low-energy appliances it is conceivable it could be self-sustaining in its power requirements using the solar-cell glass. Apparently Australians do not mind using high energy stuff as electricity is cheap. I’m sure the same cannot be said elsewhere on the planet. Such amazingly new technology helps us pave a green and clean path towards a glorious future.
