Dulas intros Solar Powered Vaccine Refrigerator

Cold storage is an essentiality in bio labs. Most of the enzymes, blood samples, culture samples, vaccines etc need to be store for years together. They can remain in their viable though dormant forms for a long time only under low temperatures. Besides they have to be maintained in their pure forms, which also requires low temperatures. Dulas, a UK based company has introduced a solar vaccine refrigerator that they show-cased at the 2005 MEDAfrica exhibit in Zambia. The refrigerator does not require electricity implying that it is grid-independent and can store vaccines and drugs at an ambient adjustable temperature.

“MedicAfrica is a major event that attracts interested parties from all over Africa and when the Minister for Health came to receive the gift it created quite a splash and attracted a lot of attention. The seeds of our recent success were sown then. It helped us demonstrate the significant advantages of our product and established an excellent working relationship,”

said Ian Draisey, the director of Dulas.

Refrigerators being one of the electronic goods that consume enormous electricity, especially in laboratories and pharma companies where large amounts of samples and products need to be stored thus requiring many such coolers. The solar refrigerator would be a great alternative to the conventional refrigerators to save non-renewable sources of energy. This replacement is thus expected to change the present scenario of electricity usage tremendously.
