In case you thought solar energy was the lamest and the slowest kind of green power ever, think again. Students at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have come up with a way to harness and radically enhance the normal sunlight into a concentrated beam 1000 times as strong as normal sunrays. Using a solar dish composed of a completed mirror, the students can focus enough solar energy at its focal point to melt solid steel! In a demo, a member of the team held up a board which instantly and violently combusted when brought within the range of the dish’s focal point. The students are obviously very happy about this development and have already formed a corporation to further research the possibilities of this spectacular innovation in home and office usage.
