In a resolute yet righteous move, Solar One – a non profit, eco-education organization plans to build Solar 2 – New York’s first Carbon Neutral Building, provided they could raise $6 million. The 8000 sq. ft. structure is planned to be constructed along the East River at 23rd Street.

The building will be exclusively designed to incorporate office spaces, workshops, green job training and even film, music and dance programs. Furthermore, a radically contrived hydroponic greenhouse will be included which can grow its own strawberries, lettuces and other food products! But the originative virtue of this building would be its total affiliation with green technology. It would integrate a complete array of solar panels along with its walls draped in lush vegetation. The design would also utilize water recycling system and natural lighting techniques.

Pauline Augustine, marketing associate for Solar One, says:

Essentially, the biggest problem in New York City with climate change and global warming is that 77 percent of our buildings account for the CO2 emissions. That is the challenge. This building is going to be a living, breathing example of how to put together something innovative. You will be able to stand under the photovoltaic cells and understand how they work. The whole building is going to be an exercise in learning.
