400 long-haul trucks from small-to-medium trucking firms in Oregon, California, and Washington will soon be getting upgraded with SmartWay upgrade kits. Along with these, the trucks will get upgraded with a variety of fuel and emissions-saving technologies.
SmartWay Upgrade Kits is able to reduce not only consumption of fuel, but also carbon dioxide, and nitrogen oxide emissions and that too by as much as 20%. Accompanied by an exhaust after-treatment device, the kit can help reduce emissions of particulate matter by 25% to 90%, though it depends on the type of technology used.
For this upgrading process, the US EPA, the US Department of Transportation, Oregon’s Departments of Transportation and Energy, and Cascade Sierra Solutions are joining hands.
