Eco Factor: Glass-like floor tiles transform force produced by walking people into clean electricity.

Being the world’s first motor show, the Paris Auto Show holds a special place in every automaker’s hearts, so every year we see numerous extraordinary cars making its debut at the show. But this year this prestigious show has an added attraction. Skoda, the wholly owned subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group apart from launching their second generation GreenLine of hybrid vehicles along with a fully electric concept car called the Octavia Green E, also installed a series of energy generating floor tiles.

The glass-like floor tiles in Skoda’s stand at the Paris Auto Show can convert the force produced by walking people into green energy, which is being used to provide additional power to the stand. A single person walking across the section of tiles generates about 6-8 watts. The amount of power generated is displayed in real time on a digital gauge placed on either side of the section of floor. The automaker’s green initiatives don’t end here, it also installed several large plant walls in their stand to welcome the visitors with fresh, clean and refreshing air.
