Eco Factor: Sustainable flashlight generates renewable energy.
While manufacturers are busy showcasing their green gadgets at this year’s CES, industrial designers are working to design products that run on clean energy and save it as well. The Pocket-Pump Flashlight is one such device that harvests renewable energy and makes sure that it never glows when there isn’t a need.
Designed by Adam Groshong, the flashlight is powered by its user and activate by him as well. All the user has to do is to use a repetitive pen-click-like motion to turn the small generator integrated in the flashlight. The flashlight features two aluminum plates on either side and the circuit is complete when these plates come in contact with your skin.
For every 30 seconds of pumping, the flashlight harvests enough energy to glow for 2 minutes. Once left, the flashlight turns off automatically to save harvested energy. However, if the flashlight is in lantern-mode, the flashlight continues to glow even if the user is away.
