The very fact that AlGore got a Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts towards the awareness of ever inclement climatic changes, speaks volumes about the urgent need to guard ourselves against excessive warming of earths atmosphere. With the ever increasing demand for fuel consumption, it becomes imperative that we not only enhance the use of other “clean” energy sources but also need to cut down on the current rate of consumption of energy.
The Australian Conservation Foundation (ACF) has asked the public to use air conditioning as sparingly as possible. The logic behind this is quite simple. If less air conditioning is used at both offices & homes, then the usage of energy is also reduced. This subsequently leads to reduction in consumption of energy sources. This also reduces the excessive heat produced & released into the atmosphere by the devices.
But the obvious problem with this theory lies in the fact that such a scenario is not always possible practically. Hence to reduce, if not completely eliminate, the usage of air conditioning, a Sydney roof company named Solar Cool has produced a heat reflective paint. The paint is applied on the exterior of each building & it reflects about 90% of the incident Infra-Red radiation & also reflects 85% of the UV radiation. Usage of such a simple method is being widely encouraged by the ACF as it helps in reduction of consumption of fossil fuel energy by a huge amount.
The paint is named as “insultec” & is being widely used in areas of Queensland. The Bureau of Meteorology in Queensland has managed to reduce its power consumption by 50% thanks to this brilliantly innovative yet surprisingly simple technology. Technology that is so simple & effective needs to be well marketed & publicized as its use can help the planet as a whole. Such small measures can help avoid global warming & reduce the negative human impact on environment. Hope the product reaches every part of the world soon. Sooner the better I say.
