Scrap the TV standby button and help the environment

remote

Did you know that Standby buttons on gadgets such as televisions, music systems account for a bill of £62 million and producing 360,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide in Scotland alone every year?

ScottishPower, Scotland’s biggest energy supplier has demanded that the standby button must be disabled or removed to help the environment.

But manufacturers defend themselves by saying that changing the design of electrical appliances would push up production costs, as special models would have to be made for the UK market.
