Royal Caribbean will now be advocating renewable fuels as their cruises will now sail on biodiesel. They have signed an agreement with Imperium Renewables to buy a minimum of 15 million gallons of the alternate fuel in 2007 and thereafter approximately 18 million gallons annually for four years with an option for a three-year extension.
Imperium Renewables states that the purchase will be the single-largest long-term biodiesel contract. This contract will surely make the high seas a bit cleaner and should also lighten the large amount of sulfur pollutants emitted from cruise ships.
