Roof garden concept to give Lotte Department Store a ‘green’ look

Department Store Roof Garden

The swanky new branch of the Lotte Department Store Gwangbok that has recently started operating in Busan, Korea, has been given a proposal by YKH (Yamasaki Ku Hong Associates Design Lab) to improvise on their ‘roof garden’ so that it can cater to the multifarious needs of users and will also offer a splendid panorama of the Busan Port. This will be a great way to alter the urban structure by giving it a ‘green top’ which is sure to be an instant hit with the people visiting the store apart from providing extra business.

The ‘roof garden’ will be renamed “Way-Pod” and will cater to six very unique ‘ways’ or requirements of the users. The first is the ‘sol way’ which will provide a great sunset view. The ‘Heal Way’ will have various health-related features like a jogging track. The ‘Art-Way’ will cater to artistic requirements by providing a gallery of entertainment and art. The ‘View Way’ will give people a great panorama of the sea and the Busan Port. The ‘EQ-Way’ will enhance the emotional quotient of its users, whereas the ‘Tune Way’ will cater to their musical tastes. Likewise, the department store will also be segregated in ‘pods’ such as the Edu-pod, the Foodie-pod, the Gig-pod and so on.

Together, the ‘way’ and the ‘pod’ will give visitors the benefit of shopping and entertainment in a ‘green’ environment. Such urban structures with exquisite terrace gardens will be a great way to increase green coverage in the cities.
