Latin America is quickly becoming a sought-after destination for tourists. With its unique culture, and breathtaking natural beauty it has been growing daily as a tourist destination. With that in mind, Richard Meier is designing a new hotel in Mexico City for Starwood with the co developers ALHEL and GIM Desarrollos of Mexico. The W Santa Fe in Mexico City is expected to be open by 2013.

The hotel is a part of Liberty Plaza on the edge of Mexico City. It has views of the city valley, and adjacent mountains and volcanoes and overlooks a natural reserve. The architecture is designed to take advantage of the views – guestrooms, and public terraces at ground level have views of the city, landscaped gardens would have a backdrop of the valley. Amenities include a bar, living room, two restaurants, nightclub and a medium-sized conference facility. A grand staircase acts as a centerpiece for this multi-story lobby. The upper public floors would boast of spa and fitness facilities along with a semi covered rooftop swimming pool.

This construction would be a LEED accredited development – including efficient water and energy consumption systems, and increasing the comfort of the guests/users in a eco-friendly manner.
