Recycled paper-based compost can help control plant disease!

Ah! This is doubly environment-friendly. Do you know, composts based on recycled paper can provide a major weapon to fight against a range of plant diseases? The University of Warwick’s plant researchers are working on finding this.

Using composts can reduce the incidence of some important plant diseases by as much as 72%. The new research found that the replacing of around 20% of the soil volume or peat by compost gave major disease control benefits! Once commercially successful, this will be a major contribution towards the environment – both by recycling paper and fighting plant disease.

The research is funded by the UK government’s Waste and Resource Action Programme (WRAP).
