Pulse electro-thermal de-icing: Cost & energy-efficient, high-tech way to defrost

Here is a solution for people who live in zones that stay frozen most part of the year. It uses a burst of electricity to eliminate those irritating ice caked on walls or windows. The electric jolt removes most of the ice in less than a second! It is far less time taken compared to that needed when hacked at it with an ice scraper.

Thanks to Victor Petrenko, Dartmouth College engineering professor whose mastermind gave birth to this effective and efficient solution. The technology is named, thin-film pulse electro-thermal de-icing, or PETD. If widely employed, this new technology could have significant economic impact. As for example, it could cut repairing cost of power lines that is irritatingly downed by ice storms. It could also keep plane windshields frost-free, hence minimizing fuel consumption.
