Taking another step forward, North Carolina has come closer to the dream of developing a green city.

Lead by directions on energy efficiency and conservation, sustainability, green building and green purchasing practices, the Proximity Hotel is planning to register its name as second green hotel holding a gold certification from the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Green Building Rating System.

At present, only one hotel in the Gaia Napa Valley in California could achieve this rating so far.

Proximity has planned to install 100 solar panels on the roof for energy needs while rain water will provide irrigation to grow vegetables on roof of the restaurant.

Having a warehouse look, it will recycle 75 of the waste left after its construction. This means running a hotel with almost half of energy needed for a conventional hotel.

North Carolina seems realizing the need to achieve the target of encouraging the private sector to build 20 percent more efficient buildings up to 2015. In addition, the Governor’s Green Action Team has come out with successful results to encourage sustainable building practices and energy efficiency efforts.

Green California has become the center of attention, especially for those having the same dream of reducing energy and resource consumption, while lowering greenhouse gas emissions and it seems that North Carolina is also following those footsteps.
