Iron production always emits greenhouse gases, the global warming triggering emissions.
Balancing the environment and industries, MIT engineers have come up with a solution. They have developed an eco-friendly way to make iron that eliminates the greenhouse gases usually associated with iron production – by molten oxide electrolysis process.
Funded by the AISI/Department of Energy Technology Roadmap Program, their goal is to increase the US steel industry competitiveness on one hand, while save energy and enhance the environment on the other.
