Not one individual or a group, but Sweden as a whole country has merged as a winner for making the best of bio-gas—a concept that has been blissfully ignored by many countries until now. It is estimated that 25% of Sweden’s energy consumption is derived from biomass. And Linköping, Sweden’s fifth biggest city, is driving green as all the buses and garbage trucks run on bio-gas. And that’s not all, they also have a bio-gas-powered train line and some private cabs running on bio-gas. And Amanda, believed to be the world’s first bio-gas train, started chugging along the southeast coast of Sweden three years back. Moreover, it isn’t unusual to find a green and cheap bio-gas option at local gas stations.
The Swedish government also squeezed the best out of 700,000 liters of confiscated alcohol by converting it into biofuel for green applications.
Actually, this success can be attributed to Sweden’s carbon tax policy, which is the most cost-effective way to make carbon cuts and trigger off a green wave.
