Plastics from Orange Peel!

plastics from orange peelIt has been said that orange peel is rich in health nutrients. In some countries it is also used for various beauty treatments. But, do you know that an oil in orange peel — Limonene can be used to make polymers?! Cornell University researchers created a novel polymer using CO2, an oil present in orange peel and a catalyst that speeds the reaction along in January.

So, one day, instead of being pumped into the atmosphere, could CO2 be collected for making plastics! The team also hopes so. This work is exciting from the concept that scientists now will be able to make a plastic with very nice qualities, from completely renewable resources! It’s cool!
