Eco Factor: Energy efficient tower gets powered by wind energy.
Building facades embedded with photovoltaic panels for generation of renewable solar energy is a common architecture design practice. New York based HWKN Architects have designed Windscraper Tower that envisions the Greece’s incomplete Piraeus Tower in its modern avatar.
The façade of the building generates renewable energy using wind harvesting technology. The main components of the renewable energy façade include power rod extensions and wind catchers in the form of artificial leaves that function superbly to make the building energy efficient. The leaves capture the wind which is transformed into usable electrical energy.
The leaves also serve as a canopy to shade against shining sun besides allowing natural ventilation and cooling of the interiors. Artificial they may be the green leaves create a green microcosm that brings the inhabitants of the tower closer to nature in a city with very less green cover.
