Photo-catalyst to Produce Clean and Recyclable Hydrogen from Water

photocatalyst

Be it to save the earth or build economy, the demand of bio-fuel, like hydrogen fuel is soaring dramatically. But, what is the easiest source of it is not clear. A particulate photocatalyst can be used to split water directly into its hydrogen component.

To produce clean and recyclable hydrogen on a large scale1, the photocatalyst would be a good way. In the past 30 years, various photocatalysts have been found that function under visible light2, 3 and 4.

This is an advanced process in the catalysis of the overall splitting of water under visible light. Modified with nanoparticles of a mixed oxide of rhodium and chromium, here, the new catalyst is a solid solution of gallium and zinc nitrogen oxide5, 6, (Ga1-xZnx)(N1-xOx). In promoting the evolution of hydrogen gas, the mixture functions as a promising and efficient photocatalyst.
