Peugeot MPV

The first MPV (multi purpose vehicle) was launched by Renault. Since then, MPVs have changed so much from the big bulky Scenic to Peugeot’s sleek concept HX1. Although it is a concept for 2020, it has garnered much interest among motor enthusiasts. The six-seater will be based on diesel-electric hybrid. According to Peugeot, it is an unconventional vehicle. The designers have placed special emphasis on the aerodynamics of the car. They wanted a car that should be an MPV, and for Peugeot, an MPV is not just about space, it is about the ride as well. Read on to know the future of MPV’s.

The machine

Peugeot will unveil its 2020 MPV concept HX1 at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Peugeot has left no stone unturned in making HX1 the best and it uses the best all-wheel-drive diesel-electric hybrid4 drivetrain. The front wheels are powered by a 204 bhp 2.2 litre HDi engine with a six speed auto gearbox. Rear wheels are powered by a 95 bhp electric motor, a lithium ion battery pack provides the energy. And Peugeot offers this as plugin capability which is a first.

The electric motor can drive the car till 18.6 miles. While the combined mileage with diesel and electric motor is given by 88 mpg. The carbon emissions stand at 83 g/km. This car is being designed as a base for Peugeot’s future designs. This car is the announcement that Peugeot has decided to up its ante. The developing theme is termed as ‘Metamorphosis’. As the word means, this car can change itself according to the driving and interior environment. For example, after 62.1 mph, a rear spoiler and side skirts are employed by the car itself for better aerodynamics. The dimensions of the car are 4.954 m X 1.990 m X 1.373 m. The Cd figure of this car is just 0.28. The alloys have seven spokes and are turbine shaped which change shape for improving efficiency. A frontal treatment is a new feature of the HX1, this design was first seen in last year’s Aston Martin SR1 concept.

The doors have a design apt for 2020. The half-scissor shape doors open upwards and outwards to show the stylish interiors in full flow. The designers have employed oak, brushed metal and leather trim in the interiors. The cabin is designed as to give maximum feel and maximum comfort.

Innovation

A concept car is not complete without tweaks which symbolize it to be a concept. So, Peugeot has added a coffee table and a minibar mounted on the center console. The car can be converted to a six seater by unwrapping two seats from behind the front seats.
