If you think that the Panama Canal was only meant to connect North and South American countries, you have got a reason to think again! Apart from being a significant link between two continents, the Panama Canal now stands witness to the exemplary Panama Supercharge which seeks to combine industrial architecture and nature. This sophisticated blend of architectural design and natural habitat is an eye-soother for the passers-by and cruises as well.
The simply astounding architecture is an outcome of a research project carried out at the University of Applied Arts, Vienna. Designer Bika Rebek has accomplished this project under the expertise of Gregg Lynn (who won the Golden Lion at Venice Biennale of Architecture, 2008). The insight on this work comes from the water preserved architecture of Hoover Damn (Jamaica).
Hard concrete masses have gone into the making of refined captivating patterns which can easily catch the visitor’s attention. In order to experience the Panama Supercharge, travelers just need to spend an hour on this lock of Panama Canal that displays a range of climatic zones, varying atmospheres and bio-diverse nature. The architecture consists of aquariums, plants and various other attractions for the visitor. An exhibition will keep you informed about the diversity of Panama Canal.
The colors and mesh-like patterns go very well with the aquatic and land components. The Panama Supercharge has two facets at display. A visitor can on one hand enjoy the aquatic experience with all the bio-diverse components. On the other hand, a forest allows you to have a walk as per your comfort.
The patterns and structure displayed at the Panama Supercharge have been designed out of metal and solid sheets. The inputs which have gone to build the structure may be robust masses but the entire creation appears a delicate piece of art. The aura of this structure is soothing and gets aptly lighted by natural sunrays to beautify the lock of the Canal. The sophisticated feel, which the architecture hopes to create as the visitor traverses through the entire structure whether on board or in the jungle, is refreshing and revitalizing.
