Osram debuts Transparent OLED Tile

osram led

A transparent white OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) tile has been developed by OSRAM Opto Semiconductors for applications in furniture and interior designing. OLED tile has a luminous efficiency of more than 20 lumens per watt at a brightness of 1000 candela square metre and can light up an area around 90 sq. cm. The OLED is presently transparent up to 55% and is expected to increase its transparency to 75%.

The partitions that are not visible in the daytime transmit light at night that is pleasant and diffused. By adjusting the relative strength of both the hemispheres the surface light can be arranged so that the direction of the light is set. This technology can help to define the character of lighting with the help of shapes.

OLEDs produces electroluminescence because of an organic compound, when it gets exposed to AC power and is more efficient as compared to LCDs. There is no need of any back light for OLED like the LCDs. As this technology will develop more it will change the entire lighting market. OLEDs are now used in television screens, computer displays, portable screens, advertising and as light sources general space and as light emitting objects for large areas.
