Eco Factor: Organic building with plant-clad containers.
The concrete jungles are taking away most of the available land, making gardens a rare sight. To deal with this ugly situation, Gaetano Pesce has come up with a brilliant solution. The Italian-born architect and artist has designed and constructed a plant-clad Organic Building in Japan, which has gardens right on its exterior.
The nine-story green structure with 7,052 square meters of interior space has a restaurants and retail at the bottom, while above it is the office space. Taking inspiration from bamboo, the striking exterior vertical garden houses more than 80 kinds of native plants and trees selected by taking help from Osaka horticulturists.
Named a civic landmark by the City of Osaka since it came into existence in 1993, the structure flaunts its red exterior that makes a perfect contrast with its surrounding neighborhood’s gray uniformity. Cute little red pockets are placed on the steel-encased concrete panels glazed with a red finish. These small pockets consist of fiberglass planters that have beautiful, tiny gardens in them.
