Eco Factor: Bus charging system leverages the rapid charge capability of lithium-titanate batteries.
Although the present diesel-electric hybrid buses promise a green ride, they are still believed to be 100% diesel. Is it possible to change these diesel buses to electric? Yes, you can with an overhead, pantograph-based rapid-charging station. Spain-based company Opbrid Transporte Sostenible has recently unveiled its Busbaar charging system that takes people to and fro without using a drop of diesel.
The Busbaar system leverages the rapid charge capability of lithium-titanate batteries and employs an end-of-route high-power charging (250 kW) system that operates without plugging in. How does it work? When the buses stop to pick or drop off passengers, the overhead charger powers them with energy to reach the next stop, where the buses get juiced up again. The buses are recharged within 5 to 6 minutes at each end of a bus route. This innovative system holds the potential to revolutionize the bus industry.
