Eco Factor: Sustainable wedding destination harnesses rainwater and solar energy.

Sarah Jean Sylvester, an interior designer based in Boston, has proposed a sustainable makeover for the 65,000sqf Elm Tree Mansion located in Williamstown, Massachusetts. The plan is to convert the unused mansion and its property into a sustainable wedding destination, which will include site for both ceremony and reception, locally made eco-furniture, organic boutique and organic food farms.

The concept behind the design of the “One Stop Wedding Spot” is to provide a unique experience for clients while eliminating the human carbon footprint as much as possible. The design and structure of the Elm Tree Mansion will emulate classical lines and form but will hold a contemporary flare. Modern eco design materials and an impeccable attention to detail and innovative sustainable techniques will create a stimulating atmosphere for all ages to enjoy.

The lobby of the structure will feature white marble and warm honey colored woodwork. This space will be used for cocktail parties. The Elm Tree Chapel will be a new addition to the building and will be accessed through the lobby. The chapel will be able to accommodate up to 200 people. The Chapel really becomes the heart of this wedding site. It has a thin layer of water that runs downs all sides of the chapel to create a beautiful calming sound and an amazing experience and atmosphere when inside the structure. This amazing waterfall will use water collected from rain that will also be recycled and used in the mansion.

Another addition to the building is the Wedding Dress Boutique that can be accessed through the main lobby. Here is where the bride can chose from a range of eco-friendly apparel for the big day. Moreover, the site also has a bridal suite that provides a luxurious space for the bride and her friends to get ready before the wedding.

The reception hall is also a new addition to the mansion that takes up the third level of the building. The space is filled with reclaimed warm honey colored wood and glass walls that allow the views to be enjoyed by guests. The space can be connected to the outside by a full length glass wall that opens up to a patio to offers additional seating and an outside bar.

This space also holds private access to the solar panels and the green roof farm which is located partially along the exterior sides of the reception hall along with a 6000sqf roof space above the catering kitchen area. The green roof farm along with other designated areas on the site will be responsible for seasonal produce that will be used for reception.
