Eco Factor: Sustainable building to harvest solar energy for hot water and electricity.
Olgga Architects have unveiled the designs of a new Athletic Center to be constructed in the Basroch neighborhood of Grande Synthe in France. Currently under construction, the facility will host rugby, soccer and cycling and archery clubs, and also responds to strict criteria of sustainability.
The development will include solar thermal panels for over 40 percent of hot water heating, and about 10,800 square feet of photovoltaic membranes on the roof to address peak electricity demands. A retaining pond and water treatment locale for internal consumption will also be incorporated.
The roof, terraces and base have been designed as a single entity. At the base there are rugby and soccer facilities and administrative offices, while the hollowed-out portion features a spacious covered terrace that will allow a large audience to attend various sporting events. The facility is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
