Eco Factor: Sustainable self-sufficient cities with residential and commercial spaces.
With not much land to spare, the future of housing and commercial developments seems to be in the sky. This concept is the driving force behind the proposals such as the “Enoki Rome Ecocity” by OFL Architecture. The architecture firm envisions self-contained and self-sufficient cities on the skyline of Rome that include residences, commercial spaces, green areas, spaces for community activities, sport and cultural activities within them.
The achievements in material science, energy conservation and environmental solutions have allowed designers to build new housing typologies that are environmentally sustainable and modern at the same time. Designed to be erected over parks, the main cellular structure of the Enoki is made from molecular shaped steel and glass.
The 150-story project will include flying shuttles running outside the city to take inhabitants to various levels of the building and the old city. The architecture firm claims that the city can house up to 6000 residents with still enough area to spare for recreational activities.
