Designer Bradford Waugh has certainly thought out of the box with his new bicycle ‘Nulla’, but shouldn’t creativity be merged with functions to make a raw concept brilliant? It has a futuristic appeal, as it provides deep coverage, good appearance and comfort, perfect for riding and skating, but is that it? Generally force is applied perpendicular with the rim of the wheel and distributed evenly along the entire circumference but this design doesn’t allow that. The wheels have no lateral structure which only deepens trivialization of the design.
A great form should follow function to make a concept work, but from what I see in terms of practicality, one pothole could ruin the rim, making this great looking bicycle very impractical. If the designer can deliver immediate solutions to the possible flaws without changing the aesthetics, then the bike could do wonders. After all it does offer a clean, simple and sleek look that even a car owner would be tempted to own this one.
