If your idea of a good time is indulging in a space flight, then maybe some time soon in 2009 you will be able to get what your heart desires! And you know the best part; you don’t need to be a qualified astronaut for that….you just need to have really deep pockets. A space flight is definitely not for the hoi polloi, because you would need to shell out a tidy sum of $200,000 for two and a half hours spaceflight in Virgin Galactic’s SpaceShipTwo. In case you are worried about the environmental impact of your space flight, here is some good news—Spaceport America (the port for landing and takeoff) in New Mexico—will also be eco-friendly. If you like some more details and the environmental impact of the spaceport read this report by Discover. Apparently, one trip in SpaceShipTwo along with its launch vehicle, WhiteKnightTwo, has a carbon footprint equal to that of one business-class passenger flying round-trip between New York and London. Not as bad as you thought eh? The plans, revealed in September, show a teardrop-shaped building with high-tech ventilation systems, solar panels, and massive windows, all features that could earn it top certification for efficiency and energy savings by the U.S. Green Building Council. So, if you have the inclination and the money of course, go ahead and take a pleasure trip in SpaceShipTwo, because after all you will be able to enjoy something fewer than 500 people have been lucky enough to experience till now.
