Now satellites to monitor bushfire-affected mammals, identify fire-prone areas

wild bush fire

Wild bush fires lushes through the forests leaving devastations on its way. And it is no rare a phenomenon in Australia! But, what do the mammal populations living in these forests do, when the fire ravages through it? To find this, the Department of Environment and Conservation and the CSIRO jointly, will be using satellite technology.

The joint project will be comparing the mammal populations in areas that are burnt each year to regions where fire is uncommon. Number of smaller mammals is declining, and the reason for it is determined to be forest fire. It is estimated about 50 per cent of the Kimberley is being burnt each year!

This satellite technology will be used also to identify the areas that get burnt regularly.
